What are veneers?

Here at the Dental practice, we use veneers to correct discolouration, minor misalignment, gaps, chips or cracks, to help restore a natural-looking smile.

How can veneers help me?

Veneers are a cosmetic process that can help with:
  • gaps between teeth
  • broken, chipped or cracked teeth
  • badly stained or discoloured teeth
  • crooked or irregularly shaped teeth
  • noticeable fillings
  • reinforce damaged teeth

What are veneers made of?

There are two types of veneers: Porcelain veneers:are a little like fake fingernails and are custom-made and bonded to the front of each tooth. Composite resin veneers: are applied one layer at a time to slowly cover the existing tooth. Each layer is shaped and cured.

How are veneers applied?

We will prepare the tooth by buffing some of the surface, to allow for the veneer to sit flush on the tooth’s surface. Occasionally, they may use a local anaesthetic. Porcelain veneers are custom-made to fit your tooth shape and colour. After ensuring everything fits correctly, we will clean the tooth with chemicals and cement the veneer into place. Composite resin veneers are sculpted onto the tooth and cured with light to harden each layer. When your dentist achieves the desired shape and colour, they will polish the surface to give the veneer a natural look.

Can I get veneers?

Veneers require healthy teeth. Any decay or gum disease must be treated prior to the attachment of veneers. If you experience persistent teeth grinding, veneers will not be suitable, as this can cause chips, breaks, or even detachment of veneers.
